Wow... it has been quite a while since I posted here. I have been working at FedEx for three weeks now, and I just got my laptop yesterday. I've been working out of one of the testing labs, so I've felt quite homeless (since the only thing I could do from my cubicle before yesterday was stare at the wall.) I have been assigned products now, so I'll be able to start actually contributing. :-) Did I mention that I'm a project manager? My primary job responsibility is project management, but I still get to do "special projects" like setting up a web server.
After 36 days, Comcast finally got my HD TV working. Totally annoying, but at least it is now taken care of. The big deal about it is that I wasn't using their HD box, and they had zero experience setting up the TiVo HD (although the FCC requires them to support it.)
When I started working here, I started eating at the cafeteria every day (with the occasional excursion to a local restaurant with coworkers). I started putting on weight (5 lbs, to be exact), so for now I'm going back to taking a sack lunch. Thank goodness I have my lovely wife to make it for me. ;)

We have a contract employee leading a project here at this company, and he has been messing things up with our conference numbers, and just can't seem to get things right. He sent an e-mail yesterday with yet another correction, and apologized for his incontinence. Yes, he's a native English-speaker. :-P

The surprise at work was letting us go home early... Yay for leaving early on a 3-day weekend!

Yesterday at work, a short-notice potluck was planned for today in my department. My "department" now consists of 7 employees and 1 manager. At the very bottom of the e-mail, a note was made that there would be some kind of surprise today. I'm sure that it's a good thing, but I'm curious how good it will be. Let's hope it isn't like the "surprise" that Michael had for his employees on the Office (ice cream sandwiches, anyone?)

The screen on my Pocket PC died last weekend. Luckily it was just the touch recognition that died, so I was able to connect to it and copy all of my files to a safe place. Now that I've had to go without it for a few days, I have realized how much I depend on it. That was my third Pocket PC, but it was the first one that I used on a daily basis (for about the past 3 years.) I've ordered the new one from Dell and it should be arriving this week... In case you're interested in that kind of stuff, I'm getting the Axim X51v (the "v" stands for VGA.) It's definitely an upgrade to the old one, and I can't wait to use my calendar program (Pocket Informant) in high res. :-)
Work has been really fun since I've been back. I'm getting to manipulate multiple databases and write code in a proprietary scripting language... the kind of stuff that I enjoy. It's difficult enough to be somewhat of a challenge, but not so daunting as to make me give up. Have I mentioned I love my job?
Alison and I have gotten lists of different responsibilities for planning a wedding, and we'll be going through all of that very soon. As it stands right now, we want the wedding to be Saturday, June 3rd. All of that really depends of on the availability of the church and the minister, of course. I'll keep you updated.
