Tax Stuff

According to the IRS, married people who both have jobs that bring in a significant amount of money should fill out their W-4's as single no dependants so that they won't have too little withholding taken out. How messed up is that? Even the IRS knows that the form doesn't work right for calculating withholding for married people. Why don't they just fix the form (or at least put that little nugget of information on the messed up form somewhere...) :-P

I was looking at tax stuff for this year and started researching tax stuff for next year. I have no idea why, but it looks like the federal government penalizes people for being married. They want to withhold more money from each individual paycheck for a married couple than if we were both single. Does anyone understand how things work? I seriously need to meet with a financial adviser or something about next year's tax situation.
